    Biography

    Brian E. Calabrese concentrates his practice on energy-related regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters. He is a member of the firm’s Environmental, Energy + Telecommunications Group.

    Energy Regulatory and Transactional

    Brian assists a range of clients, including utilities, electricity suppliers, renewable energy companies, solar companies, developers, and municipalities. He provides guidance on utility ratemaking, energy regulation, energy transactions, renewable energy, and regulatory compliance. He represents retail competitive electricity and natural gas suppliers in proceedings before regulatory authorities. He appears before agencies such as the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), the Connecticut Siting Council, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and local land use boards.

    Brian has a record of success on behalf of his clients. He has represented clients in connection with obtaining regulatory approvals for a wind power purchase agreement and for the construction of transmission infrastructure. Brian has litigated many rate proceedings, including cases for surcharge rates to recover fuel, purchased power, and other costs. He secured for electric utility clients an annual increase in base rates of more than $120 million.

    Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Brian worked as an associate for a law firm in Charleston, West Virginia, where his practice was primarily focused on public utility regulation matters, including representing public utilities before the Public Service Commission of West Virginia in ratemaking proceedings. He previously served as a lecturer at the University of Michigan, where he taught Latin and Ancient Greek.
