Energy

The advent of state and national efforts to establish a competitive energy market has seen our Energy Group emerge as one of the leaders in this fast changing marketplace. Attorneys, lobbyists, and analysts in our energy practice assist clients in all aspects of the competitive gas and electric energy industries. Our group combines extensive regulatory and legislative experience with numerous legal disciplines vital to a successful energy company. We have extensive experience representing competitive retail suppliers of electricity and natural gas in obtaining necessary licenses to provide competitive services, drafting sales agreements, and developing regulatory compliance programs. For instance, we developed a multistate compliance program for the sales and marketing activities of a competitive supplier of electricity and natural gas operating throughout the Northeast. In developing this marketing program, we recommended the implementation of changes to the sales process; prepared manuals for sales representatives and managers; and developed sales agreements, forms, and sales presentation outlines for use by sales representatives. Once the marketing compliance portion of the program was completed, we developed a compliance program for ongoing consumer protection, reporting, billing, and collections.

We also have extensive experience representing competitive retail suppliers of electricity and natural gas before state regulatory commissions charged with the oversight, development and design of competitive retail energy markets.

Petroleum
Robinson & Cole's Petroleum Group has developed solid knowledge of the petroleum industry through long associations with wholesale and retail fuel oil businesses and with state and regional fuel oil associations. Few law firms can offer Robinson & Cole's diverse and experienced knowledge of the fuel oil industry, garnered through long affiliations with many retail and wholesale fuel oil companies and associations.

Our approach always has been to gain a complete understanding of the legal, commercial, regulatory, and human resources environments in which these industries and their members operate and then to address the specific needs of national, regional, and local companies and industry associations. We maintain our knowledge of the industry by active participation in leading trade organizations. We focus on issues such as company formation and expansion, asset protection, union and nonunion labor and employment, environmental compliance, and compliance with the federal, state, and local regulatory requirements facing these businesses on a day-to-day basis. We are staffed to assist clients in responding to sophisticated business problems and in managing multidimensional corporate crises on short notice.
